OPINION in the JHV:
Published•Thu, Jul 18, 2024
Jewish War Veterans Houston-Levy Post 574 condemns the heinous act of violence that occurred on July 13, when a man outside the perimeter of a rally attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump.
Violence of a political nature is totally unacceptable in this nation of laws and civilized discourse. All members of this Post pray for the speedy recovery of the two injured survivors of this dastardly attack. To the Comperatore family, we offer our most sincere condolences on the tragic loss of your loved one.
This type of violence must be rooted out and dealt with by the rule of law of our nation. We stand with every individual and organization that condemns this act of political terrorism as not a representation of the basic ideals of our great nation.

Dr. Albert M. Levy was a member of the Texas Army and took part in the capture of San Antonio de Bexar when the Texans seized the town and the Alamo from the Mexican forces in December 1835, two months before the famous siege of the Alamo began. Dr. Levy was highly praised for his part in this battle by F. W. Johnson, one of the Texan commanders.
He died in 1860.
Four people of Jewish descent did, however, die in the Alamo battle of March 6, 1836. One of them was Anthony Wolf, an English Jew and both his sons aged 11 & 12. Another, Galba Fuqua, was one of the group of settlers from the town of Gonzales who rode to the aid of the besieged garrison. He died in the battle three days before his 17th birthday.

Houston is a favorite destination among Jewish veterans as JWV Post 574 is one of the largest and most active posts. In addition, out-of-towners always enjoy Houston’s Jewish deli, which most other cities lack. The national leaders also were impressed with the Houston host team. PICTURE in EVENTS.
